Privacy policy

How MenuFits handles your information.
The short version: the menus and photos you create are never sent to our servers.

MenuFits (“the Service”) is provided by Koko Kikaku, a sole proprietorship in Japan operated by Mika Takeda (“we”). Contact for privacy questions: studio@kokokikaku.com. Postal address: Kyoei Building 2F (Kyoto Suzaku Studio), 44 Suzaku Hozocho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto 600-8846, Japan. The Japanese version is at privacy.html; if the two differ, this English version applies to users of the English Service.

Where your menu is stored

Everything you type, the photos you add and your save slots are stored only in your browser (localStorage). Nothing is sent to or kept on our servers, and we cannot see your menus.

This also means that clearing your browser data deletes your menu. For the same reason, you cannot carry on editing from another device or browser. Keep a backup with Save file (.json) in the editor.

What is sent to third parties

MenuFits only talks to other services in these cases.

1. Typefaces (Google Fonts)

Typefaces are loaded from Google’s servers (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). As with any web request, your IP address and browser details reach Google. The content of your menu is never sent.

2. Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read and which features are used. IP addresses are anonymised, and your menu text, photos and restaurant name are never sent. We record the interface language (English or Japanese) so we can tell the two versions apart.

For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are off by default (Google Consent Mode; your region is determined by Google from your IP address). Nothing is sent at all when:

3. Payment (Stripe)

Only if you buy MenuFits Pro are you taken to a checkout page run by Stripe. International purchases in US dollars are sold through Link, Stripe’s merchant of record, which calculates and pays sales tax, VAT and GST and sends your receipt. We never receive your card number. We keep only your license key, the email address used at checkout, your billing country, the Stripe order IDs, and a random device ID (menufitsDeviceId) used to count activated devices, solely to issue, re-send and manage your license. See Stripe’s privacy policy and Link’s privacy policy.

4. Advertising

The English pages and the editor show no ads. Some Japanese-language articles on this site carry clearly labelled affiliate ads for Japanese print services.

Opt out of analytics

You can stop analytics from this browser at any time. The setting is stored only in this browser.

Cookies

MenuFits itself does not use cookies; your work is saved with localStorage. Google Analytics sets measurement cookies only when analytics is active (see above). Opting out above stops those cookies.

Where your information is kept, and for how long

We run MenuFits from Japan. The purchase information listed above (license key, checkout email, billing country, Stripe order IDs and device IDs) is stored in Google Cloud Firestore (Firebase) in the United States and processed by our license service in the United States. Analytics data is processed by Google LLC, and payments by Stripe, Inc. and Link, LLC — all in the United States. Your information may therefore be disclosed to recipients in Japan and the United States.

We keep purchase information for as long as your license can be used, so that we can re-send a lost key or reset your devices. If you ask us to delete it, we will, except for records we are required by law to keep (tax and accounting records, which Japanese law requires us to keep for up to 7 years). If we stop operating the Service, we will delete purchase information once any such legal retention period has ended. Your menus are never stored by us at all.

Your rights

To access, correct or delete the purchase information we hold (email, billing country, order IDs, license key), email studio@kokokikaku.com from the address you used at purchase so we can confirm it is you. We will respond within 30 days and in line with the privacy law that applies to you. Deleting purchase records may mean we can no longer restore a lost key. We may update this policy; changes take effect when posted on this page, and we will email license holders about material changes.

If you have a concern about how we handle your information, please email us first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the privacy regulator where you live — for example the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the Personal Data Protection Commission (Singapore) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (New Zealand).

Terms and refunds

Using MenuFits and buying MenuFits Pro are covered by our Terms of Use & Refund Policy (one-time license, up to 5 devices, full refund within 14 days).
